Tell us about your International Experience trip. Where did you go? What was your favorite experience?
I traveled to Bhutan, which is a rural mountainous kingdom sandwiched between India and Tibet. Our class met with public officials and local entrepreneurs to discuss Gross National Happiness and sustainable tourism in a post-pandemic world. We also visited ancient sites and museums, sampled ema datshi (the national dish made of chillis and yak cheese), and beheld stunning views of the Himalayas 24/7. By far, my favorite part was the hike to Paro Taktsang (AKA "the Tiger's Nest"), which is a 400-year old Buddhist monastery built into the side of a cliff. The trek was both physically demanding and culturally rewarding. Thanks to Yale SOM's Global Study requirement and our fantastic tour guides, I enjoyed a one-in-a-lifetime trip!
