New Kevin Y. Zhang Scholarship to Support Students from Mainland China

Beginning in the fall of 2006, the Yale School of Management will offer a new scholarship funded by Kevin Y. Zhang '94, which is designed to increase the international diversity of the student body. The Kevin Y. Zhang Scholarship is a half-tuition scholarship that will be awarded to students from mainland China who need financial assistance and demonstrate exceptional merit. The scholarship will enable Yale SOM to attract highly competitive students from the growing applicant pool in China while providing the opportunity for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to accept an offer of admission from Yale SOM.

With Yale’s developing focus on China, the Kevin Y. Zhang Scholarship is an important step in fostering cross-cultural dialogue and exchange. The scholarship will complement other Yale SOM initiatives in China, including the China Research Initiative at the International Center for Finance and the April 2006 China Industry Conference at Yale.

Kevin Y. Zhang is currently Managing Director of Asia Special Situations Group with Goldman Sachs in Hong Kong. Mr. Zhang was a mainland Chinese student who came to Yale SOM and through his scholarship he hopes to give other mainland students access to the same range of opportunities that he enjoyed.
