Each summer, Yale SOM hosts college juniors, seniors, and recent graduates for the Global Pre-MBA Leadership Program. The two-week program helps students develop their leadership skills and introduces them to the benefits of an MBA, giving them a glimpse at what they could gain from management school. The program is aimed at students from populations in the United States and around the world that are typically underrepresented in management education.
Students take compressed versions of courses in the Yale integrated MBA curriculum, taught by Yale SOM’s top faculty. They also participate in a series of leadership development exercises and a group project that tasks them with developing a hypothetical business plan for a storefront near the Yale SOM campus that is economically viable and in keeping with the Yale SOM mission of educating leaders for business and society. At the end of the program, the students present their ideas, complete with budgets and marketing materials, to a panel of SOM faculty.
Students say that the educational opportunities and career insights that the program offers are immensely valuable, and that networking and collaborating with fellow participants from across the country and around the globe makes the entire experience truly memorable. “We really got to know each other on a different level,” says Leila Meliani. “I’ve really benefitted learning not just from the professors here, but my peers as well.”
