Impact of COVID-19 Outbreak on Yale SOM Programs

Yale School of Management is monitoring the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus and related travel restrictions and adjusting plans for programs as events warrant.

Fall 2020

On July 1, Dean Kerwin K. Charles announced the broad outlines of  Yale SOM’s plans for resuming in-person instruction for the fall 2020 semester:

Key points

  • Yale SOM will resume activities on campus for the fall semester.
  • All classes will be delivered online, as well as in person, to accommodate those who cannot be on campus due to health concerns, capacity limits, or travel restrictions.
  •  We will strictly follow University protocols for viral testing and all other health measures stipulated for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Many in-person non-curricular activities, such as events and group gatherings, will be limited.
  • Developments in the prevalence of the virus, the availability of treatment, or guidance from government officials may require changes in announced policies.

Orientation for 2020-21 Academic Year

Virtual Orientation for all incoming students is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 to Friday, August 28. AASL is working hard to provide incoming students the best possible virtual welcome to SOM and looks forward to meeting our new students.

In-Person Summer Programs Canceled

All in-person summer programs at Yale are canceled through June 27, 2020.

Remote Work and Phased Return of Staff to Campus

Beginning June 1, a number of research, library, and related support staff began returning to campus. Through July 10, all other staff who can do their work from home must continue to do so. In accordance with guidelines issued by public health experts and the State’s Reopen CT Initiative, Yale will begin Phase 2 of Research Reactivation on July 20, provided there are no significant changes to the current public health conditions. Read about Phase 2 here. Visiting SOM

Visits to Edward P. Evans Hall are suspended until further notice. Staff may request to make a one-time visit to retrieve items from their workspace; find information here

Admissions

Full-time MBA program
Yale SOM Admissions has added an additional “Round 3 Extended” deadline of May 27, for those candidates who are unable to submit a complete application by the Round 3 deadline of April 14 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Round 3 candidates have an additional 10 days to submit a GMAT or GRE test score (until April 24). 

Master of Advanced Management program
The Round 3 deadline of April 14 is unchanged; however, candidates who are unable to submit a complete application by the Round 3 deadline because of the COVID-19 pandemic should reach out to Admissions.

Master’s in Global Business and Society program
The Round 3 deadline of April 14 is unchanged; however, candidates who are unable to submit a complete application by the Round 3 deadline because of the COVID-19 pandemic should reach out to Admissions.

Yale Public Events Policy

All scheduled events inside of Evans Hall have been canceled or have migrated to an online format. If you have plans to attend a Yale SOM event, please check with the event organizers about their current plans.
