Student Ventures Win Accolades at 2020 Startup Yale
Among the winners was Weiyu Wang ’20, whose team was awarded the $15,000 Rothberg Catalyzer at Yale prize for CtrlTrial, which uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to accelerate the patient-screening process for clinical trials.
Two startups founded by Yale School of Management students were among the winners at Startup Yale, the annual showcase of entrepreneurial ventures and pitch competition, which took place online on April 16 and 17.
Weiyu Wang ’20 and his team were awarded the Rothberg Catalyzer at Yale for CtrlTrial, which uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to accelerate the patient-screening process for clinical trials. The Rothberg Catalyzer at Yale is a $15,000 prize awarded by the Yale Center for Biomedical Innovation and Technology and the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking to the best student-led venture focused on developing an innovative hardware solution to a medical challenge. CtrlTrial offers automated scanning of clinical trail protocals, patients’ electronic medical records, genomics data, and real world data.
Teammates Derrick Choi ’21 and Markea Dickinson ’20 were named audience choice winners in the contest for the Rothberg Catalyzer at Yale for their venture, ThermaBand. ThermaBand is a thermal comfort product that empowers individuals to moderate their body temperature without changing thermostat levels, undergoing invasive treatments, or using current ineffective or undesirable solutions.
