This Week's Student Club Speakers: Real Estate, Arts Funding, and Theater

Every week, accomplished alumni and other leaders visit Edward P. Evans Hall at the invitation of student clubs, sharing career advice and insights into their industries. Here are a few of the speakers who visited the school during the week of November 14.

Monday, November 14

Bruce Becker SOM/ARCH ’85, president of Becker + Becker, the  developer of 360 State in New Haven, spoke to the Real Estate Club about integrating design and business principles in his work.

Steven Kopits, president of Princeton Energy Advisors, was the guest of the Energy Club, Private Equity and Venture Capital Club, and Finance Club. He delivered a talk titled “Thinking Oil—Energy Forecasting for Financial Markets.” 

Tuesday, November 15

The Arts and Culture Club hosted “Arts and Entrepreneurship: A Conversation with Ruby Lerner, Founding President of Creative Capital.” Lerner discussed Creative Capital’s founding and the current state of the arts world in a discussion with SOM Professor Amy Wrzesniewski.

Wednesday, November 16

Patagonia’s Director of Philosophy Vincent Stanley  discussed the company’s journey toward responsibility, its current challenges, and its newest ventures during a Social Impact Lab event.

Todd Haimes ’80, artistic director/CEO of Roundabout Theatre Company  returned to SOM as a guest of the Media and Entertainment Club for a discussion on how he took the company from Chapter 11 bankruptcy to its current position as the country’s largest nonprofit theater.

Thursday, November 17

Net Impact hosted a PRISM event featuring a panel of experts on the current political, economic, and humanitarian crises in Venezuela. Lorenzo Caliendo moderated the panel.
