Designers Jessica Helfand and Michael Bierut, two prominent graphic designers who have joined the Yale SOM faculty to teach about the intersection of business and design, are hosting a new podcast this fall on the subject, titled “The Design Of Business/The Business of Design.”
The podcast will be recorded in conjunction with Helfand and Bierut’s course Twelve Design Ideas that Changed the World, which will examine a series of design challenges and their solutions. The guest speakers will include designers, their clients at a variety of organizations, and business leaders.
Scheduled speakers include Deborah Berke, dean of the Yale School of Architecture; film producer Bruce Cox; Leslie Koch ’89, president and CEO of the Trust for Governor’s Island; Danny Meyer, CEO of the Union Square Hospitality Group; Steve Duenes , graphics editor at the New York Times; and Teddy Goff, digital director of Obama for America.
Helfand, a lecturer in design and management at Yale SOM, is co-founder of the Winterhouse Institute and the website Design Observer. Her most recent book is Design: The Invention of Desire. Bierut, a lecturer in the practice of design and management, is a partner at Pentagram, the world’s largest independent design consultancy firm. Helfand and Bierut are both winners of the AIGA Medal, and together host the Observatory podcast.
