Behind the Scenes of the Natural Foods Revolution: An Intimate Evening with Some of the Great Pioneers of the Food Industry
Thursday, Mar 6 2014 at 12:00 - 2:00 am EST
Join us for a fascinating discussion of the evolution of the natural and organic foods industry – from the high-minded idealists and backwater health foods stores of days gone by, to the widely influential $100 billion natural foods business of today. Joe Dobrow (Brown '85, Yale SOM '92), former head of marketing for Whole Foods and Sprouts, and author of the brand new entrepreneurial history of the industry, Natural Prophets (Rodale, 2014) will lead a panel discussion featuring luminaries of the natural foods world, including Sandy Gooch (Founder of Mrs. Gooch's, LA's original superstar natural supermarket), Paddy Spence (CEO of Zevia natural sodas), and Russell Parker (former head buyer for Whole Foods and currently SVP at Nature's Best, one of the industry's largest distributors). Joe will also speak about his research into how the success of the natural foods triple-bottom-line model has contributed to the transformation of many American businesses into more transparent, more sustainable, more mission-focused enterprises. The book will be available for purchase and signing. The event is a benefit for the Sustainable Business Council, and will be held at the beautiful LivingHome of Steve Glenn, BROWN '87, the Founder and President of LivingHomes, and "natural" light refreshments will be served. The prefabricated LivingHome was assembled in eight hours. It was designed by Ray Kappe, FAIA, and it was the first home in hte nation to be certified LEED Platinum, the highest level of certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This event is brought to you by the Yale Club of Los Angeles, Yale Blue Green, the Sustainable Business Council, LivingHomes, the Yale School of Management Alumni Association and the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Sciences Alumni Association, and the Brown Club of L.A..
