Yale alumni and guests (including alumni from Yale SOM, Yale College and the Yale World Fellows Program) joined Tony Sheldon, Executive Director of Yale SOM's Program on Social Enterprise (PSE) and Professor of Global Social Enterprise (GSE), in Mumbai for an evening discussion about the PSE. Yale SOM's motto of "educating leaders for business and society" is embodied in various ways. SOM's Program on Social Enterprise supports scholars, students, alumni, and practitioners interested in exploring the ways in which business skills and market disciplines can be harnessed to most effectively and efficiently achieve social objectives. The Program's flagship offering is a full-credit course that links teams of Yale students with social enterprises based in India. Yale students partner with mission-driven social entrepreneurs to focus on a specific management challenge that the teams work together to address during the semester. In five years, GSE has worked with 25 leading and emerging Indian social enterprises engaged in economic development, sustainable energy, women's empowerment, education, environmental conservation, and housing. Appetizers were provided by SOMAA.
