Position Focus: 

The Director of Recruitment and Selection will lead, design and implement innovative and equitable strategies and processes for marketing, recruitment, selection, and enrollment for The Broad Center (TBC) at Yale School of Management (SOM) two selective, tuition-free leadership development programs for public education leaders serving in full-time roles in urban school systems—the Master of Management Studies in Public Education Management (The Broad Master’s or TBM) and the Fellowship for Public Education Leadership (The Broad Fellowship or TBF). The Director, Recruitment & Selection will ensure TBC at Yale SOM’s recruitment and selection processes follow equity and inclusion best practices, and will serve as the primary admissions staff member for TBC at SOM. The Director will report to the Deputy Director for The Broad Center at Yale School of Management.

Essential Duties: 

  1. Lead, design, and manage overall recruitment and selection processes for two selective, tuition-free leadership development programs, with equity at the forefront, to ensure that diverse cohorts of leaders committed to excellence and equity for K-12 students are selected for both programs each year.
  2. Lead the development of TBC at SOM’s strategic vision as it relates to recruiting and selecting for both programs.
  3. Design recruitment and yield strategy aimed at the specialized candidate profile of public education leaders serving in full-time roles in urban school systems.
  4. Develop event strategy and execute online and in-person events for the program’s recruitment, admissions, and yield. Develop and deliver public presentations (including via webinars) designed to promote TBC programs to prospective applicants.
  5. Effectively represent TBC at Yale SOM in front of a variety of audiences, including key organizations in the K-12 sector, education leaders, prospective applicants for both programs, staff, and alumni.
  6. Create, manage, and maintain content for recruitment materials, website, view book, admitted and enrolled student packet, and all aspects of the admitted student portal.
  7. Work collaboratively with colleagues across Yale and within the Broad alumni network to develop and implement strategies related to building diverse pipelines of education leaders.
  8. Develop strategy to involve Broad alumni in the selection processes, including planning alumni roles, and recruiting and training alumni to support multiple phases of the admissions’ cycle.
  9. Develop applicant assessment process for both programs. Supervise staff and alumni volunteers when interviewing and evaluating candidates.
  10. Lead all aspects of the review process for applicants to both programs and manage overall communications with prospective applicants. Facilitate conversations around applicants’ final decisions. Contribute informed opinions about applicants’ final decisions. Ensure that selection process mitigates bias and promotes equity and inclusion in all stages.
  11. Manage the enrollment and onboarding of Broad Master’s students and Broad Fellows, including registration and pre-arrival communications, among other duties.
  12. Provide comprehensive analysis of admissions data to drive decision making and enable effective and efficient monitoring, both during and after admissions seasons.
  13. Oversee the continued implementation and integration of the admissions platform and become the subject matter expert for the platform. Works in conjunction with the SOM IT team to ensure platform effectiveness.
  14. Lead future improvements in recruitment and selection strategy, including debriefing each admissions cycle, compiling key data, analyzing trends and outcomes, recommending any changes or innovative approaches and strategies, and implementing those changes.
  15. Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field and six years of experience in admissions, registration, placement, financial aid, student counseling or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Ability to develop and refine large scale systems and processes, while also driving toward continuous improvements and metrics.
  2. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  3. Strong analytical and technical skills, including ability to work with advanced MS Office/Excel, complex databases, and spreadsheets.
  4. Exceptional oral and written communication skills required to interact effectively with a range of internal and external constituencies.
  5. Strong organizational and supervisory skills. Superior interpersonal and judgement skills.
  6. Demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and track record of building and leading diverse, inclusive teams.

Preferred:

A minimum of six years of experience in higher education and/or K-12 public education, with substantial experience in leading recruitment and selection or admissions.
