Day of Service

The SOM Black Business Alliance recently organized a day of service projects at organizations in and around New Haven. It was a great chance for SOM students to take a break from schoolwork and help out in the local community. The projects represent one of many opportunities students have to give back. The service projects organized by the BBA were a chance for students to participate for just one Saturday. (Many students are involved in some great ongoing service work). The day's projects included exterior cleanup and beautification work at the Creative Arts Workshop downtown, recreation with children at the Ronald McDonald House downtown, organizing donated goods at the Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services center in East Rock (a neighborhood that many SOMers call home), and working with children at the Turkish Cultural Center in West Haven.

As previously mentioned, some first and second year students also give back on an ongoing basis. This includes through SOM Outreach, a student organization that sends groups of students to do pro bono consulting projects for non-profits in the New Haven area. Another student group, the Board Fellows club places students on the boards of local non-profits, giving the students unique insight into serving on a board while providing community organizations with valuable input.
