The Swensen Asset Management Institute was created to further the study and practice of asset management by supporting research, convening thought leaders, and funding scholarships.
Established in 2023 at the Yale School of Management, the Swensen Asset Management Institute honors the legacy of David F. Swensen ’80 PhD, Yale’s longtime Chief Investment Officer whose pioneering “Yale Model” set a global standard for principled, purpose-driven investment. The Institute builds on his vision by advancing the study and practice of asset management with integrity, innovation, and societal impact.
Led by Professors Tobias J. Moskowitz and Bryan T. Kelly, the Institute fosters collaboration between academia and industry, supporting cutting-edge faculty research and convening thought leaders through conferences, symposia, and colloquia. These gatherings bring together top scholars, asset managers, and policymakers to address the most pressing challenges in the field.
The Institute serves as a dynamic hub of scholarship and innovation, engaging in a wide range of activities that advance both education and practice. By disseminating groundbreaking research and incorporating new tools and ideas into Yale SOM’s curriculum, it strengthens the school’s mission while ensuring that insights extend beyond the classroom to inform the global investment community. Drawing on faculty expertise across fields such as behavioral finance, asset pricing, financial history, regulation, and machine learning, the Institute fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and cultivates ideas that shape the future of asset management.
Through its work, the Swensen Institute seeks to bridge theory and practice with an emphasis on long-term stewardship. By doing so, it honors Swensen’s enduring influence and positions itself at the forefront of shaping a more responsible, effective, and values-driven future for asset management.
