Scenes from the Los Angeles Job Trek

As snow blankets Evans Hall, now is the perfect time to look back at the Media & Entertainment Clubs recent and warm trip to Los Angeles.

A small force of Bulldogs descended on the City of Angels in early January where we were greeted with 80 degrees and nothing but love from alumni and recruiters from Hollywood and beyond.

Media & Entertainment is a hard nut to crack because, in reality, it has everything.  Sure, there’s film & television, and of course there’s gaming, plus there’s the new frontier of web distribution & streaming.  But the SOM crew gathered fantastic insight on one of the best kept secrets in the MBA, your dream job probably exists in Media & Entertainment.

Love finance, numbers, and profit?  The folks at NBC Universal are looking for your talent because as one of the largest studios, they must manage more than just celebrity salaries.

What if you can’t get enough operations?  Getting content from backlot to silver screen is a big job and at Warner Bros. we were blessed to meet with VP of Supply Chain Planning & Data Governance who just happens to be an SOM alum.

The Yale SOM L.A. Job Trek Crew at Disney

Your calling is coming from retail, you say?  Well then look no further than the giant operation at Disney’s Consumer Products division.  Plus, when the Director of Franchise Development and Yale College alum also happens to be a trained Disney Campus tour guide, you get a truly remarkable inside look at one of the world’s most storied studios. (Who knew the animators used old cels from Snow White as a slip and slide in the basement of the animation studio?)

From consulting and business strategy to software development and new distribution we got a glimpse at everything Tinsel Town had to offer.  We saw Hulu’s fresh, open culture, Blizzard’s museum of gaming, and Riot’s move to bring League of Legends to ESPN.  From small studios to global media empires, Yale in Hollywood has a lot more than Meryl Streep.
