Meet the GBS Class of 2022

Associate Director of Admissions Kate Navarro shares details on the Master’s Degree in Global Business and Society’s newest students.

This past week we welcomed 90 students in the Master’s Degree in Global Business and Society program Class of 2022 to the Yale School of Management. Each has received or is studying for a master’s in management at a member school in the Global Network for Advanced Management. The students hold citizenships in 24 countries and speak a total of 21 languages. Eighty-seven students hold a passport outside of the U.S. The class is 54% women, with an average age of 24.

The GBS program is designed to prepare early-career students for global careers. Students spend a year at Yale taking two required courses with a focus on global leadership and choosing from a slate of advanced management electives created specifically for GBS students. Students have the option to select electives from across Yale SOM and Yale to customize the remainder of their curriculum.

Students in the incoming GBS class bring an array of different interests and talents. We have a very musically inclined group, with students who play the cello, piano, trumpet, drums, guitar, clarinet, classic organ, violin, flute, ukulele, and recorder, as well as multiple singers.

There are also a lot of sports enthusiasts among the group, enjoying activities like squash, competitive skiing, tennis, fencing, basketball, sailing, soccer, swimming, wakeboarding, rowing, archery, mixed martial arts, fishing, horseback riding, baseball, rollerblade hockey, running, figure skating, water polo, pole vaulting, ballet, and other forms of dance. Many of the students have participated competitively, and one student was the first German golfer to represent their country in the Olympics.

They’ve been youth mentors, tutors, volunteered with refugees, helped rebuild homes with Habitat for Humanity, and volunteered with wildlife in Zimbabwe. One student enjoys car racing, and another is a certified pastry chef. One student holds an LLB, another is ACCA accredited, and many in the group enjoy debate.

Their professional credentials are equally diverse and notable. Employers that are represented include L’Oreal, Goldman Sachs, Tencent, Amazon, McKinsey & Company, Louis Vuitton, Bain, The Walt Disney Company in China, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Rothschild & Co, General Electric Healthcare, and many others.

Students come from a range of academic institutions and backgrounds, from engineering to arts to neuroscience. They’ve received various academic awards and honors, earning magna cum laude, summa cum laude, and Beta Gamma Sigma designations; Fullbright Fellowships; and national scholarships in their home countries.

We are thrilled to have this extremely accomplished and skilled group of students join our community at Yale SOM. Welcome to the GBS Class of 2022!
