This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Kahoot!, where I was able to blend my experiences as an elementary school teacher with the concepts and skills I have been learning at business school. Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform that strives to make learning awesome through curiosity and play. I quickly realized that Kahoot!’s three core values—playfulness, curiosity, and inclusivity—were aligned to my own personal values and what I had worked toward cultivating in my own classroom.

At Kahoot!, I was the marketing coordinator on the Kahoot! for schools team, which is continuously developing ways to support educators around the world in engaging students in any learning environment. The platform has more than 40 million ready-to-play games that teachers and students can choose from, as well as the option to create your own games to suit your specific needs.

In just a few short months, I was able to take the lead on a variety of meaningful projects, the first of which was developing content for and co-hosting Kahoot!’s first-ever EDU Summit. The EDU Summit was an-all day global virtual event to inspire the more than 35,000 teachers from 156 countries who registered to make back to school awesome. I collaborated with partners such as Microsoft, Apple, Google, Common Sense Education, and Britannica to create and host sessions that would provide educators and administrators with tools, ideas, and inspiration for this school year.

Another exciting opportunity I was able to work on was expanding the Kahoot! collection of games into social emotional learning by creating new content and working with highly regarded publishing partners. I created eight new games focused on developing students’ social and emotional learning skills, and I also collaborated with three new partners to align content, create their verified pages on Kahoot! Academy, and develop a go-to-market strategy to announce and highlight the new collection.

This summer, I also created a summer marketing campaign for the launch of Kahoot! Academy, the new, high-quality content platform for educators around the world. Based on my background in education, I developed a campaign, including collating content from educators and creating social media, that would provide value to teachers for this different back-to-school season.

Even through a virtual internship, I was able to connect with passionate, fun, hardworking colleagues who were always willing to support me. One unique way that Kahoot! teammates makes an effort to connect with each other is to have new team members host a “selfie kahoot,” where the new team member creates a quiz about themselves, hosts it live, and lets others learn about them in an engaging, creative way. Even as an intern, I hosted my “selfie kahoot” virtually and felt like a valued member of the team.

Interning at Kahoot! has taught me many invaluable skills, and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work at such a forward-thinking, fast-paced, spirited company. In keeping with the Kahoot! spirit—stay awesome!
