From the Director of Admissions: Get to Know the MAM Program

Joanne Legler highlights online resources that can help you learn more about the Master of Advanced Management program.

The Round 3—and final—deadline for the Master of Advanced Management program is right around the corner! If you’re considering an application for the Class of 2020, I encourage you to take advantage of many of the great resources the Yale SOM Office of Admissions makes available online. Given that the majority of our prospective students are located outside the United States, these are great ways to connect to the program without traveling to New Haven.

One particular resource I would like to highlight is our webinars. Over the last several months, my colleagues and I, along with some special guests (our students!), have hosted a few informative webinars on a variety of topics. The webinars have included:

  • A Virtual Presentation on the Master of Advanced Management Program: To kick off our application cycle, Assistant Dean Melissa Fogerty and I introduced participants to the MAM program. This was a great opportunity to discuss the mission of Yale SOM, the unique features of the MAM program and the Global Network for Advanced Management, and how the program complements an MBA.
  • MAM Student Panel: During this panel, current MAM students spoke with Assistant Dean Melissa Fogerty about their experience at Yale SOM. Topics included things like where to live in New Haven, how to choose elective courses, and what clubs and groups they were part of.
  • Application Tips: My colleague Kate Navarro, associate director of admissions, and I went into depth on each of the components of the MAM application. We shared our perspective on what the Admissions Committee looks for in an application and offered tips on putting forth the strongest possible profile.
  • Women in the MAM: In celebration of International Women’s Day, I recently hosted a terrific panel discussion about the MAM student experience with four talented female students. Not only are their accomplishments inspiring, but their advice on how to maximize their time at Yale SOM is also helpful to anyone considering joining the program.

Another great resource available on our website is a video highlighting the required Global Leadership: Big Issues course, which draws on the expertise of Yale professors and scholars to investigate pressing global concerns. You can watch longer clips of visiting faculty from Yale Law School, the Yale School of Medicine, the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, and the Department of Political Science.

Finally, I encourage you to get to know the students and alumni of the MAM program through our Community Profiles—for example, find out which class is a favorite of current student Edirin Aghoghovbia ’19 (a native of Nigeria who studied for his MBA at IE Business School) and where he likes to eat in New Haven.
