From the Assistant Dean for Admissions: Get to Know Yale SOM—and New Haven—This Summer

Commencement has come and gone. Our first-year MBA students have left campus for their summer internships. Memorial Day weekend is just behind us, and the spring weather in New Haven right now is giving us all high hopes for a great summer.

While all of that may conjure visions of relaxation, the admissions office is busy planning opportunities to connect with prospective students all over the world this summer.

Many of our current students are interning this summer in cities around the globe and have chosen to host a Summer Social. These events offer you the chance to sit down and have an unfiltered conversation about their experiences at Yale SOM. Summer Socials are intimate and unstructured and typically take place at a coffee shop or bar, where you’ll have the chance to mingle with both current students and fellow prospective applicants.

We will also be hosting alumni and current student panels in various U.S. cities, including New York City, Washington, D.C., and more. Come prepared to ask alumni and student interns questions about their experience as students and how Yale SOM has prepared them for their careers and lives post-graduation.

These are both excellent ways to connect with members of the SOM community in your area. However, some of you may be itching to come to campus and experience Evans Hall and life in New Haven for yourself. While classes are not in session, we are offering an abridged campus visit program during June, July, and August. You will have the chance to tour our building, get your questions answered during an interactive session with one of our admissions officers, and tour Yale University.

While you’re in town, you should get to know New Haven—grab some pizza (if you’ve talked to a current student, you know why), check out one of Yale’s museums or libraries, and grab dinner at one of the many excellent New Haven restaurants. To help guide you, our admissions officers have listed some of their favorite New Haven destinations below. No matter how you choose to get to know us this summer, know that we also look forward to getting to know you!
