Discovering China’s Business and Society on the International Experience

Photos from Yale SOM’s International Experience trip to Beijing and Shanghai, led by Professor Frank Zhang.

On the International Experience trip to Beijing and Shanghai this month, we visited various companies and organizations, including tech startups and large government think tanks, as well as significant cultural sites. A unifying theme we saw throughout the trip was the dichotomy and balance between the “new” and “old” China, and the country’s transition into the “new normal.” We met leaders with varying perspectives on what is best for the country and what the role of the government should be, but what was consistent was the agreement that China is at a turning point and that it will continue to play an increasingly important role in the global economy.
