Position Focus: 

The Program on Entrepreneurship is the administrative unit within Yale School of Management (SOM) that supports entrepreneurship classes, student entrepreneurs, and entrepreneurship faculty research. The Assistant Director develops and manages a set of programs and activities to engage Yale, SOM students, faculty, staff, alumni, external stakeholders and community members, and Advisory Board members in support of the Program on Entrepreneurship’s mission of educating founders for business and society. Reports to the Associate Director of Entrepreneurial Programs.

Essential Duties: 

  1. In concert with the Executive Director and the Associate Director, develop and run programs, projects, and events for the Program on Entrepreneurship.
  2. Participate in developing long-term strategies and goals. Determine resources needed to achieve objectives.
  3. Manage the delivery of Program activities to ensure the highest quality in all aspects.
  4. Create a strategic plan to increase opportunities for students and alumni to network with one another, engage with current students, develop interest-based opportunities and events in coordination with Development and Alumni Relations, and other units across the university.
  5. In coordination with the Associate Director and relevant stakeholders across SOM, develop content for the Program on Entrepreneurship website, written and electronic materials related to year-round alumni and board engagement.
  6. Assemble the Program on Entrepreneurship listserv, write and circulate the Program’s newsletter to students and maintain relationships with student clubs to cross-circulate relevant opportunities.
  7. Support the Director and Associate Director with ad-hoc opportunities and projects affiliated with all Yale units.
  8. Manage the annual Yale SOM Donor-Funded Entrepreneurial Awards and Yale SOM Entrepreneurial Fellowship program. Identify and communicate with judges, maintain the applications, and act as the point person for applicants. With the Senior Administrative Assistant, coordinate with the Development Office and stewardship team to ensure that project requirements are completed and that the Entrepreneurial Fellows are authorized "sponsored identities" within Yale University systems
  9. In coordination with the Executive Director and Associate Director, manage and oversee every aspect of the annual Yale SOM Entrepreneurial Advisory Board Meeting, adjacent events, written materials, speakers, and logistics.
  10. Collaborate with key stakeholders from the Yale Entrepreneurship Collaborative (YEC) and student organizations to develop programming that maximizes opportunities for students and alumni engagement.
  11. Track stakeholder volunteer interactions with the Program on Entrepreneurship, including guest lectures in classes, mentorship of students, award judging, and other speaking engagements at Yale SOM.
  12. With the Associate Director, build a diverse and talented network of Yale SOM-affiliated mentors, create an engagement strategy, act as point person for interested alumni, and coordinate efforts with Tsai CITY Director of Mentor Networks.
  13. Develop, monitor, and manage budgets.
  14. Act as on-site manager and key contact for guests, development officers, and other university units/personnel.
  15. Work closely with leadership, colleagues, and members of the Yale entrepreneurial community to support the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals of the Program on Entrepreneurship.
  16. In coordination with key stakeholders, develop a strategy to grow programs that engage external constituents, including Yale SOM alumni, donors, and friends.
  17. Manage communications with all Yale community members to make them aware of school activities related to entrepreneurship and innovation.
  18. Improve and systematize documented operating procedures and administrative protocols of the department and work to ensure compliance with school and university policies to ensure consistent learning and improvement.
  19. Oversee development and maintenance of resources.
  20. Other projects and duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  2. Exceptional oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with a range of internal and external constituencies.
  3. Strong independent judgment and attention to detail. Ability to understand which details are important and which are priorities.
  4. Ability to understand and to quickly learn the functioning of the university and be able to generalize from past interactions, successes, and setbacks.
  5. Strong analytical and computer skills, including ability to work in Windows and Mac. Ability to work with new software, platforms, and media.
  6. Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills. Ability to represent the Associate Dean, Entrepreneurial Program, SOM, and the University (and outside the University) in a professional manner. Ability to set and maintain a standard of professionalism and accuracy.
  7. Ability to anticipate and understand the needs, priorities, and behaviors of stakeholders.
