Position Focus:
The Assistant Director is responsible for engaging alumni audiences through varied written communications, managing the production of print pieces, leading special projects, and analyzing alumni communications trends and data. Reports to the Director of Development and Alumni Communications.
Essential Duties:
- Serve as primary written language content creator for the Yale School of Management Alumni Relations team. Including but not limited to writing copy for the alumni website, alumni event pages, alumni marketing campaigns, social media, and print pieces.
- Build a cohesive written marketing strategy for the promotion of all alumni events. Draft language for event pages on the alumni website, SOM Connect, design. Manage rigorous email marketing campaigns to drive alumni engagement. Monitor registration numbers and tactically shift communications strategy as needed.
- Serve as co-editor of the alumni website. Assist in designing, editing, and developing content for the alumni site. Identify, evaluate, and solve website problems internally and with the collaborative assistance of the Yale SOM Information Technology and Communications groups.
- Plan and execute written language content strategy for social media channels, SOM Connect, the Yale SOM alumni engagement platform, and the Yale SOM alumni website.
- Write stories, features, profiles, and blurbs that capture and communicate the distinguished contributions of Yale SOM alumni for the Yale SOM alumni newsletter, alumni website, and elsewhere.
- Ensure that branding and messaging is clear, concise, consistent, and not duplicative across the multiple communication channels utilized by Development and Alumni Relations.
- Provides input, strategic vision, and design insights on all Alumni Relations and Development design projects.
- Manage the production of all print/graphic design projects for Alumni Relations and Development. Working with printers to ensure timely and quality production and dissemination of print projects.
- Maintain metrics collection system for all alumni emails. Analyze data collected and makes suggestions for improvements and enhancements.
- Interpret data from alumni demographic information, including regional location, graduation year, gender, program degree, industry, sector, and other elements; along with data from alumni behavioral trends, including event attendance, digital engagement, including email and social media, donor engagement, and volunteer status, to inform communications strategy to increase effectiveness of the development and alumni relations communications team.
- Collaborate with team members to prioritize information needs and to locate and define new process improvement opportunities regarding relevant data.
- Assist with the creation of promotional marketing images.
- Assist with in-person and virtual alumni events including but not limited to webinars, small group discussions, and networking events.
- Design and implement additional innovative projects based on the needs of the Alumni Affairs office.
- Other related projects as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to communication complex ideas and concepts, clearly, concretely, and effectively for various audiences. Writing sample required at interview.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be detail-oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced and goal-oriented environment. Ability to handle crises as well as a wide range of short- and long-term management issues.
- Strong creative skills and ability to market programs to alumni.
- Strong computer and analytical skills, including ability to work with advanced MS Office, complex databases, and spreadsheets.
- Customer service excellence and excellent skills in working with a variety of alumni groups and volunteers. Ability to represent the School well in working collegially with peers and colleagues within and outside the University.

- Proven experience with graphic editing software, e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign, or equivalent.

Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree. Related work experience in alumni relations, non-profit volunteer management, and/or communications, or publishing industry experience. Event management.
