"So, what are you doing for the summer?"

April 26, 2007

That is the question of the day/week/month. Not so coincidentally, I think that this question is usually asked by those who already have internships, and are more thrilled with each opportunity to share their joy about that being the case. I, on the other hand, have spoken with some other jobless, listless, lost souls who are also less than thrilled to receive this question, or I guess more accurately, are less than thrilled to answer this question. They, too, have found themselves subjected to this new method of torture. While I never would have anticipated doing so, I have had to add this to the list of "do not ask" questions, others of which include asking "are you pregnant" or "when are you due" of a woman who has recently gained weight; or upon meeting someone's significant other following up the introduction with "so when's the wedding?" You get the idea. The good news: I think that I may be on the verge of cracking the case. Hopefully in a matter of days I will be able to write a post proudly crowing about where I will be working this summer, but alas, not yet. So, as I'm sure you've already seen from other posts, the year is almost over. It went by unbelievably quickly...really. I know a lot of people say that, but it really did. I have really enjoyed my classes, and on one hand will be sorry to see them end. On the other hand, it will be nice to return to the ranks of the gainfully employed, at least for a little while. I have come to miss what I once took for granted: the joy of looking at my bank balance periodically, and seeing that there has been an increase... the comfort of knowing that there is a steady rise in my net worth. But, I guess it's worth it to see instead a steady rise in my earning potential. Ahhh...the joys of being a student...
