Position Focus: 

Reporting to the Beijing-based Managing Director of the Yale Center Beijing (YCB), the New Haven-based Program Manager plays a key role in the development of YCB as Yale University's intellectual and convening hub in China. He or she is responsible for a range of activities including: developing and executing initiatives to enhance YCB's engagement with the entire university; working with university-wide faculty, administrators, students, and YCB's Managing Director on the development of programs and activities held at YCB that advance Yale's interest in the region and further the University's global impact; lead and execute communications efforts across the university and beyond that showcase YCB's activities and impact; and provide program management functions for programs initiated in New Haven, including content coordination, budgeting, marketing, and logistics support.

Essential Duties: 

  1. Working with YCB's Managing Director, and in consultation with the Yale School of Management's (SOM) Senior Associate Dean for the Executive MBA and Global Programs, lead efforts for university-wide engagement and cultivate a pipeline of faculty, administrators, scholars and students across the entire university, so as to effectively gauge and survey their interests, cross-pollinate ideas, and develop programmatic offerings that fulfill the following objectives: serve the Yale community of faculty, administrators, students and alumni; enhance the University's reputation by showcasing its intellectual breadth, depth and commitment to China; and convene decision makers and thought leaders to address pressing global issues.
  2. Develop and execute a plan to communicate effectively about YCB's activities and impact both within and outside of Yale University, through non-Chinese traditional and digital media channels, including: regularly liaising with and working with the University's Office of Public Affairs to create relevant news stories, updating the YCB website, creating and updating social media and multimedia channels, uploading materials and videos of YCB's activities, helping to draft annual reports, press releases, flyers, and emails, including, ideally, translating materials from Mandarin to English and vice versa.
  3. For programs that originate from New Haven, develop program budgets, file expense reports, contracts, and agreements with internal parties and third party vendors, create program schedules and events, devise program materials, invite faculty and speakers, review and administer admissions and participant registrations, work closely with the YCB Beijing team to arrange for a full range of logistics including air and ground transportation, lodging, travel visas, etc., compile surveys, analyze data, draft reports, recommend program changes and improvements, and provide any other assistance as needed.
  4. Create and maintain an active log of university-wide programs for Chinese clients that happen in New Haven, including SOM executive education and other leadership development programs, programs originating from YCB that happen in New Haven, or faculty initiatives and travels that involve China, to serve as a record and as a basis for generating ideas for YCB's programmatic offerings.
  5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience: 

Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and related experience in strategy, marketing, communications, relationship building, and/or education.

Master’s degree. Yale affiliation, which includes studying at or working at Yale. Personal or professional experience working outside the U.S. and/or with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to intercultural sensitivity. Fluency in Mandarin. Global orientation; experience working across countries and regions, and fluency in more than one language.
