The MAM provides an incredible broadening of one’s network and experiences.

After completing my MBA at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business, I had the opportunity to attend a Global Network Week in New Haven. That’s where I learned about the Master of Advanced Management program. The chance to study at Yale full-time seemed like an amazing opportunity. Whilst my MBA provided me with robust analytical skills, the Master of Advanced Management (MAM) added an invaluable global perspective on doing business.

The MAM focuses on teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal dynamics. I’ve worked alongside people from different cultures and backgrounds, and I had the opportunity to learn from industry leaders such as Sir Martin Sorrell of WPP, and Marissa Mayer, the president and CEO of Yahoo!. I’ve also had the opportunity to hear U.S. Supreme Court justices speak about their careers at the Law School. The MAM provides an incredible broadening of one’s network and experiences.

Yale is a full-spectrum experience. On the one hand, I took a class on the management of software development, where we coded a fully functional web app. On the other, I took a computer science seminar that wasn’t focused on coding as much as a philosophical approach to the interaction between the humanities and technology. Another interesting course I took was Venture Capital and Private Equity. It was very much experiential—we spent a lot of that time on teams negotiating deals. I am very passionate about technology, and was able to gain practical insight into how those VC deals are made.
