Just a quick plug that I will be conducting a Twitter chat today at 1pm Eastern Time (US) for anyone who has questions about the Yale School of Management or the Yale SOM admissions process. The chat is being hosted by the Graduate Management Admissions Council. To participate, follow @OfficialGMAT or our own Twitter handle, @YaleSOM (which is worth following in general to keep on top of what's happening here at Yale). You should also use #MBAchat in all your tweets, and follow the #MBAchat hashtag.

Last night I attended a reception we hosted at the Yale Club for women interested in pursuing an MBA. The evening consisted of a panel, moderated by former Dean Sharon Oster, of five alumnae pursuing careers in various fields -- finance, consumer packaged goods, healthcare, management consulting, and non-profit management. This event is just one of many we hold for women interested in graduate management education.

Each Sunday the New York Times Travel section profiles "36 Hours" in a different city. This past Sunday, that city was New Haven. The Times' profile highlighted some classic New Haven destinations like Union League Cafe, Long Wharf Theatre, Caseus, Anchor Restaurant, Yale University Art Gallery, and others. It also hit on some lesser-known gems like Zuppardi's Apizza, Cafe Nine, Bella's, Cask Republic, and Liuzzi Gourmet Market.

This is an exciting time of the year, with school is in full swing after Class of 2014 orientation last month. My favorite part of orientation is the Day in New York, when the entire incoming class trains in to New York for lunch at the Yale Club followed by company visits and a gala reception at the New York Stock Exchange. This year, Laszlo Bock '99, senior vice president for people operations at Google, gave a wonderful address to the class -- and essentially told them what they need to do to get a job at a place like Google (not a bad way to start your MBA career).

A bit of a provocative blog title, to be sure, and certainly not in keeping with the idea of under-promising and over-delivering, but at the risk of creating unreasonable expectations, I will be hosting an online webinar tomorrow at 12:00pm Eastern Time (US) where I will walk through the elements of the Yale SOM application and offer general advice on how to position your candidacy.

With the New Year well into its third week, it's time to start making good on one of my important New Year's resolutions: to be a more regular contributor to this blog. And especially since my diet and exercise resolutions didn't last past January 2, this is one resolution that needs to stick. By announcing here, in writing, that I will blog at least once every two weeks in 2012, I'm hoping to create a little forced accountability (more so than that still-unused gym membership).

Technology abounds here in New Haven! Although perhaps not the first place people think of when they think of tech hot spots, with the wealth of pharma and biotech firms in the region (drawn in large part by Yale and its strength in the bio-sciences), the Science Park incubator a few blocks from Yale SOM, and the many technology-related ventures connected to Yale (such as Yale's Office of Cooperative Research, the tech transfer arm of the University that patents and commercializes Yale research, and with which Yale SOM students are frequently involved), there's quite a lot happening in the tech space in and around New Haven.

Classes began this week for the Class of 2013. It's always wonderful to see a class come together here on campus, and this year is no different. The 229 students who make up the Class of 2013 are remarkably accomplished and impressive in a host of ways, and the way in which they have jelled as a group even this early in their first semester is a real pleasure to watch. To give a better sense of them, we've posted some statistics and facts about the class on our website.
