I am so excited and proud that a team of three Yale Consortium members (Tiffany Dockery, Myles Bradley and myself) placed 2nd at the Howard University MBA Exclusive Case Competition on Saturday, October 27, 2012. The case was an extremely challenging workforce reduction scenario and was based on strong quantitative analysis. I am very proud of our effort, especially taking into account the fact that the week that we received the case we were on Fall Break and all 3 team members were in different cities (in my case I was in a different country!).

Captain’s Log Star Date 10.19.12 (to some long decimal number)
On Tuesday I caught the train from London to Paris. The weather in Paris is beautiful, and as soon as I get settled in my apartment I am off to the races to see the beautiful sights. This city has a ton of shops and great restaurants; clearly I am going to be busy while I am here! I get to walk past historic places such as the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. Such great history in Paris in the 21st century!

Captain’s Log Star Date 10.16.12 (to some long decimal number)
I landed in London, England around noon on Saturday. I am staying with a good friend of mine from college and law school (networking is invaluable; it helps you have places to stay all over the world and even in past centuries!).

So, I guess it is time to let the “cat out of the bag” as people in the 21st century state. I am from the 23rd century, and I am Captain of Starfleet Enterprise. I have been sent back in time to attend Yale SOM because its curriculum has set the foundation for leadership in the 23rd century. This installment of Captain’s Logs specifically chronicle my Fall Break journeys, one of the most exciting missions of my life!

Late Summer and early Fall are great times of year. The temperature is cooling off slightly, and change is in the air as students head back to school. I am from the South, so of course another great thing about Fall is that football season starts! But I digress . . . I have been back at Yale SOM this week, and the buzz on the campus is great. We have an outstanding first year class and they are already working hard preparing for a busy term. I love the energy around this place generally, but it is special right now.

Business school provides a number of outlets for leadership. From group work to student government and other student organizations, many students take on leadership positions during their time in business school. However, I believe that it is important to take the leadership tools developed in school “on the road” for the betterment of the greater community. In 2012 I have served as the President of Outstanding Atlanta, Inc., a leadership recognition and development program.

It has been a while since I blogged, so I am glad to be back in action. The school year ended wonderfully, mostly because I had the opportunity to attend the Yale Golf Summit which took place on May 10-13 (Thursday to Sunday) at the Bandon Dunes Resort in Bandon, Oregon. This event, which brought together students, alums, Yale Deans, a new professor, and some other Yale stakeholders, was spectacular for a number of reasons. First, Bandon Dunes is easily the most fabulous resort and set of golf courses that I have ever seen.

During our trip to India we had the opportunity to visit Everstone Capital, one of the top private equity shops in India that has over $1B under management. For context it is worth noting that:
