The shape of Edward P. Evans Hall, the new Yale SOM campus, is becoming visible. Since October, workers have been bolting in the 4,750 pieces of steel that will make up the skeleton of Evans Hall. The steel already in place is starting to give a sense of the building’s internal and external structures, including a distinctive curved space at the southwest corner that will house the largest classroom.

I am happy to announce that three Yale SOM members (including myself) are part of the organizing committee for the 2013 National Reaching Out LGBT MBA (ROMBA) Conference! We teamed up with MIT and Tuck business school students to submit a organizing bid in October and had our first organizing retreat at the beginning of December. The conference will take place in Boston, MA during October 2013.

This past Wednesday was the last Mathletics class of the semester. The last week consisted of class presentations and had topics ranging from marathon running to soccer.To follow up on my group's project which explored which regular season statistics were the best predictors of playoff success, we found that while regular season win percentage was a somewhat reliable predictor in the NBA and NFL, the best predictor of the MLB playoffs is luck. In the universe of graduate/professional degree programs, the MBA degree offers perhaps the most practical curriculum. Yale SOM offers no shortage of applicable courses. But Yale SOM also provides the ability to take courses, inside and outside the school, that aren’t as directly relevant to one’s career trajectory. Or so one might think.

As I went to high school in Singapore and college at NYU, this was my first ever college football game and tailgate. And I admit I was unprepared for the scale of the event; It was huge! There were tens of thousands of people coming in from all over the US. I even met an alumnus who flew in from Texas and graduated over 40 years ago. Pretty amazing to see all the school spirit in action.
