Partners & Families

More than one-third of Yale SOM students come to campus with families or partners, who are welcomed into the overall Yale community. The Partners Club provides a social network and assists in taking advantage of the experiences that Yale and New Haven have to offer. From auditing courses to hiking in city parks to dining in one of the many downtown restaurants, members organize events and activities that suit their varied interests. Additionally, the SOM Partners Club offers fun-filled, child-friendly events, including pizza parties, trick or treating, and apple picking. Club members with children also join together to arrange play dates and other activities to enable the children to get to know one another.

Access to Yale University

All partners have access to the Payne Whitney gym and the Yale shuttle service. In addition, partners may audit Yale SOM and Yale College electives with permission from the professor. Only married and same-sex domestic partners and children have access to the Yale Health Services. Email accounts and off-hours building access are not provided to partners.

International Spouses and Partners at Yale (ISPY) was created by and for spouses and partners of international graduate students, post-docs, scholars, and professionals at Yale. The group brings together spouses and partners to make social connections, create a support network, and share information.

Job Resources

Many partners work throughout Yale University. To get an idea of the range of job opportunities, check the Yale Human Resources website.

Outside of Yale, there are myriad opportunities in New Haven and the surrounding towns. Some of the nation’s largest corporations are headquartered in Connecticut.

Childcare

Yale Work Life Program maintains a comprehensive childcare directory. The directory provides information about daycare, preschool, and babysitting and nanny services. It also lists local activities for families.

Another resource is 2-1-1 Child Care Infoline, a free childcare referral telephone service in Connecticut.

Begin researching childcare options as early as possible, as many facilities fill up well before the academic year begins.
