I interned this summer at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the company's healthcare strategy and operations advisory group. There, I had the fortunate opportunity to work on interesting projects alongside extraordinary people in a firm that places particular value on work-life balance and the professional development of its employees.
Classes began this week for the Class of 2013. It's always wonderful to see a class come together here on campus, and this year is no different. The 229 students who make up the Class of 2013 are remarkably accomplished and impressive in a host of ways, and the way in which they have jelled as a group even this early in their first semester is a real pleasure to watch. To give a better sense of them, we've posted some statistics and facts about the class on our website.
I am very pleased to announce that the 2011-2012 online application for the Yale School of Management MBA Program is now live. To access the application and begin working on it, click here. In addition, although this information is contained in the application itself, below are the 2011-2012 Yale SOM application deadlines and essay questions.
Although campus is quiet right now with students away on Spring Break -- and traveling around the world on their International Experience trips and other journeys -- things are very busy here in the Admissions Office. There are less than 24 hours before our Round 3 application deadline, which closes at 5pm Eastern Time on Thursday, March 17. At the same time, we are continuing to review Round 2 applications in advance of next Friday's decision notification date. We will release a handful of decisions before next Friday, but the vast majority of decisions will go out then.
Now that roughly a month has passed since our first application deadline, I thought it would be a good time to give a quick update on where we stand in the process. We're still very much in the midst of reviewing applications and sending out interview invitations. At this point, we've extended roughly two-thirds of the invitations that we will ultimately send out for the round. Although this means that the majority of invitations have already gone out, it also means that we still have many more left to extend.
So, I’m a second year now. I hate to use a cliché but, well, time flies. It has not only flown but its wings are now frantically flapping faster than ever before. I’m already into the second quarter of my second and final year and it’s time to give back a little. I’m originally from Europe where (for reasons I do not fully understand) students simply do not seem to develop the same die-hard loyalty to their alma mater as do American students.
Exactly one year ago today, I was in your shoes. I was touring the northeast in search of my future, hanging onto every piece of advice that was offered to me, but with no clarity to speak of. Indeed, each business school that I visited had its pluses and minuses, but there was not one that “stood out”. However, that all changed when I visited SOM. So, (Undecided) Prospective Student, in hopes of helping you out, I thought I’d share a few memories, some vivid, some blurry, from my campus visit, where, for me, everything became clear:
About this time a year ago, I was searching for something. Once or twice a week after work, instead of my usual mental unwinding, I went out on the hunt for the right MBA program. I looked at schools near and far, and far and wide, but at each event I often heard both alumni and faculty sing a similar tune. “We’re looking for the right fit.” Fit? I had spent my entire pre- (and post!) pubescence battling this premise. In high school when everyone else wore sneakers, I wore fluorescent pink chuck taylors.
In my most recent post, I mentioned that we would be bringing the Yale SOM 2010-2011 application live in July. I am pleased to say that the application did in fact go live earlier this week. Anyone who wishes to access the application and begin working on it can do so through our website. Stay tuned for more information on our upcoming events and other resources for enhancing your candidacy, such as our online Application Tips Chat. More to come soon . . . .
