The installation of exterior glass is complete (with the exception of openings for the movement of materials and equipment). The rough-in of mechanical systems is approaching completion, and drywall work is proceeding on floors 1, 2, 3, and 4. Installation of the building’s extensive technology systems will begin soon and proceed throughout most of 2013. Once the weather permits, landscaping work will commence in the courtyard and around the site.

With some major milestones approaching in the construction of Edward P. Evans Hall, the school has begun planning for the official opening of the building in January 2014. Nearly all of the building’s exterior glass has been installed; once the remaining glass is in place, Evans Hall will be completely “closed in” and shielded from the elements.

Waterproofing of the deck adjacent to the courtyard and insulation installation under the radiant heating are in progress. The next major milestone will happen in late fall when the final pieces of glass are placed and the building will be fully enclosed.

A group of Yale SOM alumni from the Connecticut area recently got a chance to see the rapid progress being made on Edward P. Evans Hall, the new home of the Yale School of Management. The tour on August 3, led by Yale SOM director of facilities Bob Saidi, was organized by the Connecticut Chapter of the SOM Alumni Association.

It's been a little more than a year since Yale SOM celebrated the official groundbreaking for Edward P. Evans Hall. Since then, when the site was little more than a hole in the ground, a steel frame has been erected and glass panels hung on the exterior of the building.

There might not have been any fanfare at the construction site for Edward P. Evans Hall on February 10, but the date was a significant one in the history of Yale SOM's new campus. It was the day the building was "topped out," when the last beam of structural steel was fastened in place. As winter transitions to spring, construction will continue at an aggressive pace, with crucial work both on the inside and outside of the 242,000-square-foot building.

The shape of Edward P. Evans Hall, the new Yale SOM campus, is becoming visible. Since October, workers have been bolting in the 4,750 pieces of steel that will make up the skeleton of Evans Hall. The steel already in place is starting to give a sense of the building’s internal and external structures, including a distinctive curved space at the southwest corner that will house the largest classroom.
