This Week’s Student Club Speakers: Women in Finance, the Roberts Court, and Narratives Against Terror

Every week, accomplished alumni and other leaders visit Edward P. Evans Hall at the invitation of student clubs, sharing career advice and insights into their industries. Here are a few of the speakers who visited the school during the week of October 30.

Monday, October 30

Nonprofit Board Fellows hosted a presentation by William S. Beinecke Professor of Finance and Economics Judy Chevalier on the landscape of the nonprofit sector.

Tuesday, October 31

Consortium, Net Impact PRISM, and the Business and Politics Club teamed up to present “Racial Economic Inequality in the United States: (Mis)Perceptions and Reality,” a discussion led by Professor Michael Kraus based on his research around how Americans view economic inequality through the lens of race.

Abdul-Rehman Malik, a 2017 Yale World Fellow and an award-winning London-based journalist, educator, and organizer, gave a talk titled “The Asymmetry of Power: Harnessing Narratives Against Terror.” The event was sponsored by the Business and Politics Club. 

The Design and Innovation Club hosted a workshop on brand strategy with Michael Bierut, partner in the New York office of the international design consultancy Pentagram, a cofounder of the Design Observer website, and a teacher at the Yale University School of Art and Yale SOM. 

Wednesday, November 1

The Social Impact Lab and Association of Hispanic and Latin American Students co-sponsored a lecture on entrepreneurship in emerging markets by Greenberg World Fellow Facundo Garretón.

Linda Greenhouse, the former Supreme Court reporter for the New York Times and professor at the Yale Law School, discussed the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts and how it differs from courts of the past in an event hosted by the Business and Politics Club.

The Energy Club hosted “What’s Hot in Clean Energy: A Fireside Chat with Former NRG CEO David Crane.”

Friday, November 3

The Finance Club presented a Women in Banking panel featuring Lisa McEnery, vice president, mergers and acquisitions, Citi; Sanaz Memarsadghi, vice president, consumer group, Houlihan Lokey; and Ouwen Xia, incoming associate, healthcare, Goldman Sachs. Club leader Madhurima Jaiswal ’18 moderated the discussion.
