Is it March already?

February 27, 2007

They say time flies when you're having fun, but I still can't believe its almost March! My name is Kendra and I am a first year MBA student. I grew up in Rhode Island and then lived in Boston for 7-8 years before coming to New Haven, so I guess that makes me a true New Englander! My background is in education, so business school has definitely been a new and exciting experience for me. Aside from learning all about balance sheets and cash flow statements, its been a great year for so many other reasons. We've had senior level executives teaching/speaking in our classes--ranging from the CEO of Sears Canada, and executives from Nationwide and TIAA-CREF ... just to name a few. This past weekend I attended the Yale MBA Christian Conference, and it was truly an amazing experience. Steve Reinemund, Chairman of PepsiCo and Stephen Lynn, Chairman of Cummings Inc., were two great speakers who inspired us with stories of how they successfully navigate their business, their faith, and their families. It was a great reminder that what you prioritize in life really shapes the way you live your life. That said, time management has probably been the most difficult task this year! Trying to juggle classes, activities, internship search, friends, life, fun, and sleep has been ... an interesting challenge. Tonight was a night of multi-tasking as my roommate and I cooked dinner while catching up on the day's events, and ate dinner together while watching a video clip on the Milgram Experiments for class tomorrow! I'm curious to see what we'll be talking about in class as the topic is Employment and Ethics. Final exams are right around the corner, so I'm hoping to use this weekend to catch up and review materials from the past few weeks. The internship hunt has been put on hold until finals are over. But soon, very soon, two weeks of spring break will begin! Though there is snow on the ground here now, I am pressing on, knowing that in two weeks, I will be somewhere in Orlando, driving to a beach or waltzing around Disney World...
