From the Director of Admissions: Exploring Diversity at Yale

Today is the second of our two Explore Diversity Days here at the Yale School of Management. More than 75 prospective students are on campus to meet with current students, faculty, and staff and get a sense of what makes the SOM experience unique. One of the things that make Explore Diversity itself unique is, well, its diversity.

At Yale SOM, we have a very broad and inclusive view of diversity. We view true diversity of background, experience, outlook, and interest as a core strength of our community and as a valuable benefit for students  to learn from others’ insights in the classroom, in group projects, and in club activities. We routinely hear from prospective students at Explore Diversity Days that they are surprised by the diversity of both the attendees and the students and faculty who participate. We take this as a sign that we are doing something right.

For those of you who are interested in learning more about Yale SOM, we have a number of upcoming events that will feature faculty presentations. Upcoming diversity events include an LGBT reception that we are hosting later this month in New York.

I'd also like to note that we have an Application Tips Chat coming up in two days, for those of you who are looking to apply by our January 9, 2014, deadline and are seeking advice on how best to position your application.

Best regards,

Bruce DelMonico
Assistant Dean and Director
