Position Focus: 

Develop and execute comprehensive cultivation, solicitation, and volunteer management strategies to achieve the goals of the Reunion Giving program within the broader goals of the Yale SOM Development Office.  In collaboration with the Director of Leadership and Reunion Giving, establish and implement strategic plans to accomplish fundraising goals.  Mentor and guide staff to develop effective strategies for relationships with volunteers and donors.

Motivate front-line fundraisers to cultivate, develop and close reunion gifts for the Yale School of Management in partnership with alumni volunteers as well as directly with prospects.  Collaborate with staff to identify reunion volunteer leadership and to drive aspirational reunion gifts.  Provide leadership in the facilitation of relationships between gift prospects, key volunteers and members of the development staff. 

Partner with development and alumni affairs colleagues to foster a team environment that works effectively and in concert to coordinate initiatives and activities with targeted populations of alumni.  Carry out other duties as assigned by the Director of Leadership and Reunion Giving.

Essential Duties: 

  1. In collaboration with the Director of Leadership and Reunion Giving, develop and execute clearly articulated reunion fundraising goals and short- and long-term strategic plans. Partner with the Director on goal setting and the development and implementation of business plans for each constituency to guarantee that goals are attained.
  2. Ensure that reunion prospects are solicited for a level of contribution that is appropriate, as efficiently and effectively as possible.  Target donors via multiple strategies, including volunteers and/or staff.  Develop and implement unique and impactful strategies for particular constituencies, including young alumni, older alumni, international alumni, women, etc.
  3. Manage a pool of prospective leadership-level donors, primarily those in reunion or approaching reunion years, and achieve activity and revenue goals as outlined by the Director of Leadership and Reunion Giving.
  4. Develop powerful volunteer recruitment and management strategies and ensure that volunteers are proactively encouraged, trained and supported. Serve as key liaison and foster positive relationships with volunteer leadership. Utilize technology, such as Gravyty, to deliver cutting edge tools to help reunion giving volunteers manage their peer-to-peer solicitations.
  5. Partner with Alumni Relations and other campus colleagues to develop and implement strategic efforts as appropriate. Represent Yale SOM to internal and external constituencies as appropriate.
  6. Monitor and analyze results of outreach and solicitations to determine effectiveness and opportunities for improvement. Create, synthesize, and analyze extensive quantitative information on donor behavior and return on program investment.  Track and analyze the effectiveness of fundraising strategies such as matching gift challenges.
  7. Support and communicate the long-term strategic direction of the school, the Development Office, and the Reunion Giving program while managing the myriad individuals, details and deadlines involved in the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of key prospects in the Yale SOM reunion classes.
  8. Collaborate effectively with SOM Development Office peers to navigate complex donor situations, share information and resolve issues.
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience: 

Bachelor’s Degree required. Four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

Required Skills & Abilities:   

  1. Effectiveness in management of volunteers and a history of successful work with high-level volunteer leadership.
  2. Proven success in cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts at all levels. A high level of determination to set and exceed fundraising goals, and superb knowledge of gift-planning practices.
  3. Superb organizational, interpersonal, technical, written and oral communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment successfully and with a sense of humor.
  4. Advanced skills with current desktop technologies including Microsoft Office products, database systems, and ability to adapt to and use future technologies.
  5. Familiarity with, and commitment to, the mission of a large research university.


Work experience in a dedicated Reunion Giving program and technological expertise with the Blackbaud CRM system. Global orientation; experience working across countries and regions, and fluency in more than one language.
