From the Assistant Dean for Admission: What Happens After I Submit My Application?

It’s been three weeks since our Round 1 application deadline—and two weeks since the deadline for completing the video questions—and now seems like a good time to give you a sense of what happens with your application and where we are in the evaluation process.

We know that the time just after you submit your application can be a particularly difficult one. You’ve just completed a project that you spent a great deal of time working on; usually when you do that, you get relatively immediate feedback on it. But in the case of an MBA application, there is often a period of silence while the admissions committee reviews what you submitted.

Let me pull back the curtain a bit on the process. First, every application we receive is reviewed by two different members of the admissions committee. We begin to review complete applications within days after the application deadline and the review process continues until the decision release date, which for Round 1 is December 6. We then meet as a committee roughly once a week (sometimes more often) to discuss applications, first to decide whom to interview and then to decide whom to admit. At this moment, we have already met twice and have begun to send out interview invitations, but we are still just getting started with this process—my rough estimate is that we have sent out less than a third of the interview invitations we will ultimately extend. Between now and the end of the round, we will evaluate the remaining applications and will continue to send out interview invitations on a rolling basis until then. Candidates for whom the review process is complete and who will not be moving forward will receive notification towards the middle of the round.

So even though things seem quiet on your end—perhaps frustratingly so at times— you should know that we are working very hard and very steadily to make our way through your applications.
