Position Focus: 

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Leadership Studies and Founder and CEO of the Chief Leadership Institute (CELI), plan and manage the operational, administrative, and curricular programs and projects of CELI and coordinates the Yale School of Management’s collaborative partnership with CELI. Ensure that the activities of the Senior Associate Dean are optimally supported.

Essential Duties: 

  1. In concert with the Senior Associate Dean, contribute to the development and execution of programs and projects for CELI, including enhancements that will improve customer satisfaction and program effectiveness, and operational efficiency. Participate in developing strategies and goals for CELI and generate ideas for program expansion.
  2. Collaborate closely with CELI, SOM and University administrative staff and/or student workers (approx. 20) to ensure smooth program delivery and efficient operation of the organization.
  3. Manage program contribution process (faculty and administrative team) to ensure operational excellence of CELI programs.
  4. Develop, monitor and manage budgets.
  5. Provide strategic input for key elements of marketing and program development for CELI.
  6. With current knowledge of business trends with an emphasis on corporate leadership in society, performs and oversees research on a wide range of critical leadership issues, as well as pivotal companies and leaders in the relevant industries. Recruit, hire, train, and manage student researchers.
  7. In concert with CELI leadership and SOM Communications, build broad awareness of CELI among all relevant constituencies and drive interest and sponsorship by contributing to CELI’s brand building efforts across digital, print and PR, including but not limited to, website development, social media outreach, print collateral development, email development, communication with media outlets and press kit preparation.
  8. In partnership with Senior Associate Dean, create and manage CELI media efforts through hands-on understanding of evolving media technologies and best practices. Develop creative, appropriate ways for CELI to disseminate information to key audiences.
  9. In concert with SOM Communications, oversee design and production of all CELI collateral materials.
  10. Manage a range of confidential and detailed administrative responsibilities including class theme development, itineraries and trip visits, travel arrangements, scheduling, coordinating logistics, conducting research, preparing reports and presentations, support for teaching, research and other professional activities.
  11. Manage complex master calendar and prepare and manage a high volume of reports, documents, presentations and correspondence.
  12. Improve and systematize documented operating processes and administrative protocols and work to ensure compliance with school and university policies and to ensure consistent learning and improvement. Serve as on-site troubleshooter for programs and individual program participants.
  13. Serve as primary contact for media sponsors, donors, and corporate and governmental offices and as primary liaison for the Senior Associate Dean.
  14. Develop strong working relationships with school, campus and community-based business partners.
  15. Manage relationships with outside partners, donors, and contractors and review, authorize, and monitor all invoices. Serve as purchasing director for CELI and direct and approve spending from department budget.
  16. Other projects and initiatives as assigned.

Required Education & Experience: 

  Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Skills & Abilities:   

  1. Superior interpersonal skills to interact effectively and represent the school and CELI well with high profile participants, faculty, administrators and corporate contacts. 
  2. Superior research, writing and editing skills. Writing sample required at interview. Strong analytical and computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office, complex databases, and spreadsheets.
  3. Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills. A team player that works well with other members of the staff.
  4. A leader with a positive and can-do attitude that supports the mission of the school and of CELI. Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and changing environment. Nights and weekend occasionally required. Occasional travel required.
  5. Proven organizational skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple complex and multi-tiered projects and processes simultaneously under tight deadlines.


Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English or related, research-focused, field and 3-5 years of related experience or equivalent. Ideal candidates will have experience managing major corporate client relationships and/or events, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and facilitating the delivery of world-class service. Global orientation; experience working across countries and regions, and fluency in more than one language.
